Engaging in a remarkable experience, I have been dedicating time to weekly drop-in sessions tailored to support child refugees in County Durham. These sessions are crafted to be both enjoyable and educational, with a focus on exam preparation and the enhancement of English language skills. Currently, my involvement extends to tutorial sessions with Ukrainian children affected by the ongoing war, where I take on the responsibilities of teaching English and establishing emotional connections as deemed appropriate. In this endeavour, I have been entrusted with significant responsibilities, and the gratitude I feel for being able to make a difference, no matter how small, in the lives of these children is something I hold in high regard and will forever cherish. The students I work with have expressed their thanks for the knowledge and lessons shared, yet, as a young student myself, I find that I have learned immeasurably more from them than they have from me.

Expanding on the first project assigned by the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, which focused on giving back to the community, I want to delve into the details of how my group and I tackled a pressing issue within our school environment. The chosen problem that resonated with me deeply was the prevalence of youth smoking among students. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, we decided to confront this issue head-on by devising an educational campaign aimed at middle schoolers.
Over the course of almost a year, from April 2019 to February 2020, our initiative involved the strategic placement of rotating flyers throughout the school, emphasizing the detrimental effects of smoking on both the mind and body. To further enforce our message, we collaborated with school security to designate specific areas, known as common smoking grounds, where heightened vigilance and intervention were implemented.
Sustaining the project was not merely an obligation to meet the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority's ESP requirement but a genuine commitment to making a positive impact on our community. Beyond the initial awareness campaign, we actively engaged with school administrators, advocating for policy changes and enforcement measures to suppress smoking within the school premises. Organizing and executing this initiative required effective leadership skills. From coordinating with administrators to ensure our efforts were aligned with the school's policies, to delegating responsibilities among group members and monitoring task requirements, I found myself developing a range of essential leadership skills. The project became a catalyst for personal growth, pushing me to navigate the complexities of interpersonal dynamics, project management, and advocacy.
